State of L3 Presents The Day We Surrender to Air.
After the huge success of the Amsterdam International Documentary Festival IDFA, A.J. Guzman’s “Surrender trilogy” was shown at the legendary Thessaloniki International Documentary Film Festival, Greece and at The 8th International Festival Signes de Nuit, Paris in March 2010
The 8ème Festival International Signes de Nuit in Paris, France is presenting over thirteen days universal oriented selections of recent films and audiovisual works mainly independent filmmakers and artists. The aim of the festival selection has not changed: showing strange films touching human living condition and situations in the actual societies, with a preference of particular cultural spaces. There are two types of globalisation: the “one culture” option intrudes by the economical fittest and the other one of joyful affirmation of incomparableness, multiculturalism, differences and cultural complexities, marked by permanent approaches and dissociations. Signes de Nuit is working with these struggles for another way to be.

Things & ideas that we are interested in:
* The aesthetics of the everyday (food, clothing, sounds, music, signs, words, holidays, letters, family albums, postcards) that become signs which we can read to track the experiences and transformations of migration, exile, relocation, and the transmission of memories, pain, stories and contestation down generations.
* The aesthetics of the transformation of ideas and intellectual traditions when they migrate with peoples forced to change location.
* The aesthetics of difference, of otherness that can either be held at a distance as foreign, alien, invasive, or embraced as transformative, necessary, invigorating and productive.
